I’ve been brainstorming and exploring Pinterest this week as I prepare for a retreat I’m helping host next month, and it got me reminiscing about last year’s retreat theme – Flamingos!
I’m a sorority advisor, and each August the chapter officers come together for a retreat to gear up for the fall semester. I think it’s important to incorporate fun and learning, so I always like to tie a theme to the retreats to make them more exciting and memorable.
I was (and still am) loving flamingos, and I found a great saying that I incorporated into the retreat to tie it all together – “When birds of a feather work together, great things happen!”
Check it out…
When I’m prepping for a party, I like to lay everything out to get a visual of what I have and how it all ties together. I relied on my go-to shops for decorations and supplies.
At Party City I found the flamingo lights, the tinsel flamingos, and pink plates.
I got the fabric, feathers, ribbon, stickers, and cardstock from Hobby Lobby.
I found the adorable flamingo straws at Paper Source.
And at Shop Sweet Lulu, I got the flip-top glass bottles (now out of stock, similar here), the honeycomb diamond, napkins, and the treat bags.
I like to have something hands-on for people to do at retreats, especially if they learn better that way, so I printed off flamingo coloring pages and set out crayons. I also brought out my pink and orange post-its and pink and orange pens to compliment the theme. The gift for each council officer was a monogrammed set of flamingo cards from May Designs.
It was such a fun day and we got so much accomplished in preparation for fall. I’m really excited to see what this year’s council team will do to leave their mark on the chapter, and I’ll be sure to share the decoration details of our time together here.
Party on!

Each year, I come up with a theme for the retreat and this year it was PIZZA (You can read about last year’s theme – flamingos – here). […]
