Hello friends! Last night, I hosted such a fun dinner with Chelsea and her siblings. Like I mentioned yesterday, when we’re on vacation in Sunriver, each family is in charge of one of the dinners and last night was our night!
We first decided on the Caribbean theme last month, and I volunteered to be in charge of decorations. Surprised? 😉 I got right to work looking at Pinterest and browsing a few of my favorite online shops for decoration inspiration. Ultimately, I decided to go with mostly palm leaves and I had so much fun shopping and gathering everything.
I gathered some of decor from my house, and did some styling before we made the trip to see how everything would look together.
I just love the palm leaf plates layered on top of those really cool bamboo plates (which are compostable – win!). I’m also totally in love with the palm print placemats to really tie everything together. I wanted to really make a statement piece out of the tropical flowers (on sale at Michaels!), so I added them to a vase filled with sand for an extra beachy feel. Of course, my glassybaby candle holders had to be added to the mix, along with some other fun palm leaf finds from Michaels.
Then, last night, it was time to put it all together for our dinner! While everyone else was busy in the kitchen making delicious Caribbean-themed food, I got to work first on the main dining room table.
Next, I put together the kids area. I printed off some palm tree coloring pages, sharpened my colored pencils, and set everything out for them!
And, my final step was to mix up big batches of my tropical punch (one with rum and one without). Get the recipe here.
I served the mocktails in some fun Finding Dory cups (from Party City), so they wouldn’t get confused with the cocktails. And, bonus, those cups served as a fun favor for the kids! The Cheers cups are from Swoozies, along with the gold straws. The palm tree picks are from Party City, and just add that extra touch of flair to the cocktails.
It was such a fun night, and the food was delicious! We served Caribbean jerk chicken sliders, coconut rice, a green salad with mangos and peaches. For an appetizer, we had a big batch of queso (not necessarily Caribbean, but yummy nonetheless!) with chips, plus veggies and dip.
Today, I’m headed to the pool, where I plan to spend most of the day. Ahhh, vacation! I’ll be back here on next week to share details about my trip to Sunriver for another #julietravels post. See you then!
Party on!
