Happy Thursday, friends! Don’t you just love a short week, when a Thursday feels like a Wednesday?!
If you’ve been following along this week, you’ve read all about my time in Paris with my Girl Scout troop. We enjoyed our time there so much! From there, we headed to London for a few days. London is one of my most favorite places to visit. I spent about ten days in London six years ago for work, and it was love at first sight. This trip further confirmed my love, and I’ll be sharing all about our London adventures tomorrow.
Today, I’m excited to share a special #tastyThursday post, an addition to my #tastyTuesday post, with a recipe that is totally London: the perfect gin and tonic. Chelsea introduced me to gin and tonic a few years ago, and I couldn’t believe I had never tried it before. It was so refreshing and I loved the juniper flavor.
The gin and tonic, or G&T as it is referred to in the U.K., is said to have originated with the army of the British East India Company. This history makes it a very popular drink in the U.K., which inspired me to recreate the “perfect G&T” to get a little piece of London back home.
First I had to gather my ingredients, and I went with U.K. brands for my gin and my tonic. Tanqueray gin is a favorite of mine, so I knew it had to be the gin I used in my attempt to create the perfect G&T. Fever Tree tonic water is so good, and since it’s a U.K. brand, that was a must for the cocktail as well. The perfect G&T also requires limes, so I gathered those too.
When it came time to build my drink, the first step was finding the perfect glass. I selected my Hatch Rocks Glass. I love the crystal cuts on this glass and the way it sparkles when light shines on it!
The first step was to slice my lime in half. I squeezed one half into my glass, then cut a lime slice from the other half. I ran the lime slice along the rim of the glass, ensuring that every sip would be infused with lime flavor.
Next, I filled the glass about three quarters of the way full with crushed ice. Then, it was time to add two ounces of gin. I topped the gin off with tonic water, and the final step was to add the lime slice.
For an extra flair, I also added an empty airplane bottle of gin!
So there you have it! My version of the perfect G&T. One of the best things about a G&T is that the ingredients are so easy to find. So stop by the grocery store on your way home from work today and you, too, can have a little piece of London during cocktail hour tonight!
Party on!
