Happy Wednesday, friends! I’m living vicariously through my photos from my time at Disney World, and it’s been fun to relive the memories by blogging each day.
On Monday, I shared about Epcot and the hotel I stayed in.
Read it here.
On Tuesday, I talked about Animal Kingdom.
Read that post here.
Today, I’m talking about Hollywood Studios, or as I often call it – MGM. It used to be called MGM, and I guess that nostalgia gets the better of me and I continue to call it by that name.
Hollywood Studios celebrates Hollywood’s golden age and the magic of movies. There are some great rides, wonderful restaurants, amazing shows, and a total California Hollywood vibe.
Right now, much of Hollywood Studios is under construction so it’s a half-day park in my book. But once Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge both open I think it’ll be a full-day park again for sure. Check out this schematic for the future Toy Story Land – so cool!
Since this was a half-day park this trip, I decided to sleep in and arrive to the park at about 11 a.m.. After entering the park, I enjoyed strolling down Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards going in and out of the shops.
At 12 p.m., I had a reservation at the Hollywood Brown Derby for lunch. The reservation was the Fantasmic! dining package, which meant I enjoyed a prix fixe lunch and got a ticket for reserved seating at the Hollywood Studios night show, Fantasmic!. The Brown Derby has always been a favorite spot of mine – I especially enjoy their famous Cobb Salad, which is tossed table side. I also ordered a Sangria and a plate of desserts, including the Brown Derby’s famous grapefruit cake (so yum!!).
After lunch, I saw the Star Wars Storm Troopers perform a street show. They do this about every half hour, and it’s so surreal to see Storm Troopers just walking down the street. Then I went to Muppet Vision 3D, which is a cute show featuring all the Muppets characters.
Mid-afternoon it was time to redeem my Fastpasses! I had a fastpass for Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, and Star Tours. Rockin’ Roller Coaster is another ride at the park, but it’s a little too intense for me, so I always skip it. The other three are great for me, though!
Toy Story Mania is like a journey through a kid’s room at toy size, playing a variety of carnival games.
Tower of Terror is a journey into the Twilight Zone on a runaway elevator.
Star Tours is a virtual reality journey with C3PO and R2D2.
After the rides, I enjoyed a quick snack, then it was time for the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. This is a live stage show that gives you a behind the scenes look at special effects.
Then, I did one more ride on Tower of Terror before it was time to head into the amphitheater to see Fantasmic!. I picked up a quick dinner/snack – a Mickey Mouse pretzel and frozen sangria, and made my way into the show.
Fantasmic! is a great show that centers around a journey through Mickey Mouse’s imagination that ends with him battling Disney villians. I love that it features so many Disney characters all in one place!
My night ended with Fantasmic!, then I made my way to the bus and back to my hotel! I can’t wait to see all that Hollywood Studios has to offer in 2019 once the Toy Story and Star Wars lands are complete.
More tomorrow, see you then!
Party on!
