On Thursday Chelsea and I will celebrate two months being married, so I thought I would reflect on all of our wedding details this week! Today I’ll be sharing all the special details of our wedding day. Tomorrow I’ll share some photos of all the wedding day events, and then I’ll wrap up the week with a couple posts about our reception day.
Our ceremony and reception happened on different days. Our ceremony was a small, immediate family affair at Chelsea’s parents’ house and our reception was a brunch gathering of all of our favorite people at an event space in Seattle.
When we were choosing a look and feel for our wedding day, we knew we wanted to compliment the decor at Chelsea’s parents’ house. Their house has a lot of neutral colors and is very light and bright, which perfectly fit our aesthetic. We also wanted the decor to easily transition to our reception, so we worked to find a nice balance.
I worked with my mom, Chelsea’s mom, and Chelsea’s aunt to create all the flower arrangements for the ceremony and reception. We opted for all white flowers with lots of aromatic eucalyptus to compliment the season. We did some flat flower arrangements in floral rings (see my tutorial here). We also made some arrangements in vases that were placed throughout the house.
For the ceremony area, Chelsea’s mom decorated the mantle with a simple cathedral frame and flowers. I ordered some wooden folding chairs to bring in a warm wood tone to the space. I also decided to leave the couches in the ceremony area – I liked having a few seating options for our guests, and the comfy couches added another touch of warmth to the space. On the chairs, we added a small box of tissues for “tears of joy.”
On the dining tables, we added flower arrangements, eucalyptus branches, and glassybaby votives down the center of the table. At each place setting was a gold charger topped with a white plate, champagne-colored napkin, and then a place card. The place cards were one of my most favorite touches of the whole weekend. I ordered laser-cut acrylic names in copper and I just loved this personal touch for our family.
The cake had a place of prominence on the kitchen bar. I chose a naked cake with drip icing, and decided to top it with fresh flowers in keeping with the light, airy feel. I put it on a clear cake plate so that it could really shine, then surrounded it with some of the same fabric that covered the tables, and tucked in some glassybaby votives. And, we had some cupcakes on hand for our littlest guests to enjoy 🙂
Our bouquets were similar to the flower arrangements found throughout, and we made smaller complimentary ones for our nieces to carry.
I love how everything came together, and our photographer really captured the feel of the day with her images. Check back tomorrow for pictures from the ceremony.
Until then, party on!
