Make it Monday: Painting Pumpkins

Today is my Harvest Brunch! I’m really looking forward to it, even if my to-do list is still a mile long. Isn’t that how it always seems to go?! You do tons of prep, but no matter what, the day of the event you’re left with a lot to do… I digress…

For today’s brunch, I wanted to have something quick, fun, and festive for the girls to do when they arrive. I gathered up some mini pumpkins from Trader Joes ($0.60 each!), some paint, paint pens, decorative brads and thumb tacks, and some decorative tape, and the Decoration Station is ready to go.

Friday Favorites: Birthday Week

This week I turned 35. I can’t believe I’m right smack in the middle of my thirties. Sometimes I still feel like I’m 25, and in other ways (like when I’m ready to go to bed at 7:30!) I feel much older. But, nevertheless, I’m 35 and this week we celebrated!

This was an unusual week because I only had to work Monday and today. I took three days off in the middle of the week to enjoy a little birthday road trip with Chelsea (and Penny!), so most of my favorites this week are about that!

We had a great time, despite the rainy weather, and I was so excited to check another National Park off our list! Pictured above is Diablo Lake. I’ve seen so many pictures of the lake, so I was really eager to see it in person. It is gorgeous!

Make It Monday: Baby Shower in a Box

One of the downsides of living far away from many of my best friends is missing out on their wedding/baby showers, and a few years ago I decided I wanted to do something about it! My first “Shower in a Box” was a wedding shower for my friend, Dayme. It included a gift, some shower snacks, shower decorations, and a CD (hey, it was 2008!) of wedding shower songs. Over the next few years, I perfected the “Shower in a Box” as I sent a few more wedding showers and some baby showers!

Friday Favorites: KΔ Founders Day gifts!

This Sunday, October 23, Kappa Delta sisters across the country will celebrate Founders Day! Yesterday, I shared my Kappa Delta story and today I’m excited to share my favorite ways to celebrate the founding of my favorite sisterhood!

As an alumna member of Kappa Delta, I volunteer on a Chapter Advisory Board, which means I support a local collegiate chapter helping them with their day-to-day operations. I serve on a Board with nine amazing women, and each year we celebrate Founders Day with a Kappa Delta-themed gift exchange! This gift exchange is always a favorite of mine because it gives me the opportunity to get really creative and think outside the box when considering my gift.

One of my most favorite gift ideas was the KD Founders Martini kit I put together a couple years ago.

#tbt My Sorority Story

This Sunday, October 23, Kappa Delta Sorority will celebrate 119 years of sisterhood, so I thought today would be a great opportunity to look back on my 16 years as a Kappa Delta!

Sorority life was probably the furthest thing from my mind as a high school student. My dad joined a local fraternity in college, but other than that I knew nothing of Greek life, so I hadn’t given sororities much thought.

The summer before college, a few of my friends started mentioning rush (it was still called rush then, now it’s called recruitment). I gave it some thought, and as an extremely shy introvert, I thought it might be a good way to meet people in college. Going through recruitment was completely outside my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed the experience, and I loved getting to know the other freshmen in my residence hall.

Friday Favorites: One Year as Homeowners!

One year ago today we got the keys to our little house in Snohomish, Washington! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year. I love our little (seriously, it’s just under 1000 square feet!) house so much, so today I’m sharing my favorite things about our house.

This picture was taken right after being handed our keys – it had been a long, hard process with tons of house tours and several offers on other houses. I think we were still in shock that we actually made it to that day!

#tbt: Weeknight Birthday Celebration

On Monday I set-up decorations and a birthday dinner for my partner. Week days are so busy for us, that I knew something low key and simple would be exactly what Chelsea wanted for her birthday. Here was my process for pulling together a meaningful celebration in just a short amount of time!

Over the weekend, I purchased all the gifts and party decor. My first, and what ended up being my only (win!!), stop for party decor was Paper Source and they did not disappoint! I found this great “Happy BDay” set of gold foil balloons – these balloons became the focal point of my decor and they were so simple to inflate and string up. I also picked up their beautiful marbled gift bags – I love this color combo because I think it stays true to the season while being just a little different to make it special for the occasion. I also got a roll of their black and white striped wrapping paper – the quality of this wrapping paper is amazing. It’s super thick but still very easy to wrap with. It’s definitely one of my go-to’s for quality paper.
