Selection Sunday is complete and now it’s time to make your bracket! And if you have no clue what I’m talking about – it’s time for The Big Dance, also known as NCAA Basketball Playoffs!!
Ever since college, when my friend Dayme and I worked in the Athletics Department at our school, I’ve LOVED college basketball, and especially March Madness. And of course, since I love it so much, it’s definitely a reason to party!
I have several small and easy crafts to share today, all adding to the decor for a March Madness party. Here are the before pics for all my March Madness creations.
I used the brown wrapping paper to create a basketball court table cover. I used that plastic bowl (from Party City) to create a basketball basket – can you see that shape? So perfect for a basket, right?! I found that Jail Break wine at the grocery store and I loved the black and white stripes (think referee), so I bought that for my tablescape. I used orange paper, my circle punch, and a glitter banner (from Target’s Dollar Spot) for a festive banner. Here are the after pics!
Sharpies were all I needed for the table cover and basket. And orange paper, sharpies, and glue were all I needed for the wine and banner. Easy-peasy! Once all those crafts were done, I built out my tablescape.
For the centerpiece, I found a black vase that looked like a chalkboard at Michaels, and filled that with flowers. I also found that trophy cup vase at Michaels and filled that with orange gumballs. The megaphone is from Party City, and I stuffed it with black tissue fringe. I also added a Gatorade bottle, and plan to fill that with the party cocktail – I’ll add a little black tag around the rim so guests know what’s inside.
For a party like this, I like to do a potluck. I provide drinks and dessert (come back tomorrow for those details!), and ask everyone else to bring a dish. A fun way to theme those dishes is ask people to bring a dish that represents the team they picked to win the tournament.
A great way to get guests involved in the party is to provide a chalkboard (found these in Target’s dollar spot) for guests to write out their bracket picks.
If I was going to do a sit-down dinner, I’d set the place settings like this:
I got all the partywares from Party City. I’m totally loving the plates! The basketballs were in the Party City favor aisle, and they’re filled with bubblegum and a cute little basketball eraser (sitting next to the basketball in the above pic). I got the little favor boxes in referee stripe and plain orange (I drew the basketball shape on them). I filled those with a game time gorp. The game time gorp is mini Reese’s (that look like basketball nets!), Reese’s pieces, popcorn, and pretzels – the perfect combination of salty and sweet!
And now I’m ready to party, and watch a lot of basketball! But first, I gotta go fill out my bracket! Which teams do you have going to the Final Four? Who do you think will win it all? I will be rooting for a local favorite, Gonzaga!
Party on!
