I’m continuing my recap of our honeymoon (check out last week’s Sydney recap here), and this week it’s all things Fiji! Today is a post dedicated to our day trip to Malamala Beach Club. We loved this day so much! It was a perfect getaway and wonderful opportunity to get out on the water in Fiji and see another island.
We were picked up from our hotel bright and early, and drove through the countryside and through Nadi making our way to Port Denarau. It was so interesting to see the villages as we made our way to the Port.
We boarded our boat, and after a quick 30 minute boat ride on our large cruiser, we were taking a little island hopper to the island (normally, the boat would dock at a long dock connected to the island, but it was under construction, so we climbed aboard another, littler boat).
Once on the island, we met our cabana butler and he showed us to our cabana. Chelsea and I opted to rent our own cabana because we wanted to have a quieter place to rest and relax away from the crowds.
For people who prefer to be in the middle of the action, there are lounge chairs by the pool and on the beach available for all guests to enjoy.
We settled into our cabana and then immediately headed out to explore the island. We grabbed a cocktail from the bar, and then did a lap around the island. A quick 15 minutes later, we were back to our cabana – the island was THAT small!
We took a dip in the ocean, read our books, and enjoyed the view. It was perfectly relaxing and the weather was perfect – warm with a slight breeze and lots of sun.
We used our island-provided cell phone to call our butler and order lunch, and a short while later, he delivered our fish and chips and fish tacos.
After a post-lunch nap, it was time to snorkel. The water was super clear and really shallow for about 100 yards from the shoreline, which made it perfect for this novice snorkeler. We enjoyed snorkeling for over an hour because we were loving it so much! We saw navy and bright blue coral, a navy starfish, and several brightly colored fish. Chelsea spotted a black-tipped shark, which, thankfully, is not known to be aggressive to humans. Yikes!
After snorkeling, we grabbed another cocktail and took some island pictures before it was time to pack up and board the boat.
We would’ve loved to do some kayaking and paddle boarding, but it was too windy, so we’ll just have to save that for next time!
Malamala was so much fun! It wasn’t crowded, the food was great, the cocktails were amazing, and there was plenty to do. We were worried it would have a party feel, but it didn’t at all. It was very chill, quiet, and great for couples and families alike.
I would highly recommend the cabana to have a place to retreat to and relax with a beautiful view.
If you’re headed to Fiji, consider adding a day trip to Malamala! You won’t regret it!
Party on!
