Happy Monday! Last night I had the best time with my sorority sisters at our annual Christmas gathering! It was a smaller group than usual this year, but still just as much fun.
I’ve been throwing this party for the last several years, and for the last three years I’ve kept the theme a surprise from all the guests. Two years ago, I threw a 12s Days of Christmas Party and last year it was a Christmas Carols party. This year, the party centered around Christmas characters and I went with a classic red and green color scheme.
I had a lot of fun with this theme and this color scheme. It had been a while since I went totally classic Christmas with the red and green and I loved it!
Since this party is hosted at someone else’s house, I try to keep the amount of decorations I bring to a minimum (although, every year, it feels like I’m moving in when I first arrive to set up ;)). I usually just decorate the main dining table, and then add a few decorations among the food in the kitchen.
We enjoyed delicious snacks and drinks, and of course, the Jenny Cookies gingerbread cake was a showstopper on the table.
For our activity, I brought my Cricut again and everyone got to make their own tumbler. I blogged about the details of that craft after last week’s office Christmas party.
In addition to the craft, we played a Christmas characters trivia game. You can see the questions I compiled here. Everyone wrote their answers down on the festive Christmas paper, then the person with the highest score got to pick her present first, then steal at the end if she wanted to.
I always bring the presents for this party, and they always match the theme. Since this year was Christmas characters, I first brainstormed a list of characters and then got to work coming up with present ideas. I ultimately decided on…
Dancer: Disco ball tumbler
Grinch: “Grinch Please” coffee mug
Mrs. Claus: Voluspa Candle (because that’s what I imagine the Claus’ house smells like)
Sugar Plum Fair: Sugar plum fairy lip scrub and gloss
Jack Frost: A frosted WSU glass and a mini bottle of Jack Daniels, with a Diet Coke
Vixen: Kendra Scott nail laquer
Frosty: a cozy infinity scarf (similar)
Gingerbread Man: Philosophy gingerbread gift set (similar)
Santa: Butch Please. poster (this gift was a bit of a stretch – for my non WSU friends, Butch is the name of the WSU mascot, and he dresses up as Santa every year. So there you go.)
Cindy Lou Who: A KΔ ornament with a big bow on top (because it looked like Cindy Lou)
Dasher: a cozy knit head wrap for running in the snow
Prancer: leg warmers for prancing in the snow
Buddy the Elf: Candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup
This is always one of my favorite parties, and I’m already brainstorming what next year’s theme might be! Tonight, I’m hosting my Girl Scout troop for our annual holiday celebration, so I better get to decorating. Check back later this week for all the details!
Party on!
