They say April showers bring May flowers, so I thought it’d be fun to talk about my favorite kind of showers – parties celebrating milestones – this month!
This week, I’m talking all things wedding/engagement showers! I’ve had the honor to throw several wedding/engagement showers for special friends over the years. I like to make each shower unique to match the personality of the honoree/s, but each also has some similarities too.
Today I’m going to share the details of a fun engagement shower I threw for a sorority sister of mine. I found some great engagement party decorations at Paper Source, which helped me come up with my theme: “Mrs. Spane Has A Nice Ring To It”
I bought all the diamond decor Paper Source had, as well as a couple alphabet banner sets. I just love the silver and gold banner, the diamond napkins, and that diamond ring banner – swoon!! On a trip to Homegoods, I lucked into some diamond napkins and pretty pink and gold plates to match.
From home, I gathered my coordinating glassybaby, champagne glasses, a tassel banner, and cake plates. I layered all the decor on top of white and gold polka dot wrapping paper. To finish the look, I picked up white hydrangeas, and the room was party ready!
This shower was part of a meeting after work, so the bar where we put the food was the only place I decorated, to keep it easy for set-up and clean-up.
Another way I like to make a shower simple is to divide and conquer the food tasks by making it a potluck. For this shower we did an appetizer potluck, so everyone brought their favorite appetizer to share.
It’s nice to give people some guidance on what to bring so you don’t end up with all the same stuff. For our group of 10, I had two people bring drinks, five people bring savory appetizers, and two people bring sweet appetizers. And of course, I didn’t have our guest of honor bring anything. In my experience, you always want at least twice as many savory bites as sweet bites, because people will always eat more savory foods.
One of the party-goes brought ring pops – so perfect!! Elise, our guest of honor, was surprised by this little party, and it was so fun to celebrate her new engagement!
Check back Thursday for a fun engagement party cocktail.
Until then, party on!
