Happy Fa La La Friday! This week, I’ve been a busy little elf getting our house decorated for Christmas!! After our house was taken over by wedding decorations for the last several months, I was feeling sort of Grinch-y about re-cluttering our space, but Christmas only comes once per year, right?! I did downsize our decorations a bit this year and limited the decor to the front porch, our tree, mantle, kitchen table, and nativity.
Welcome to my holiday house tour, all of my favorite things this week! If you want to see a video tour – check out my Instagram story here!
I went classic this year with lots of plaid, red, and green, and I’m loving it!
First up is our front porch. Each year, I go to our local nursery to make a fresh evergreen wreath. This year was extra special because my mom was in town, so I got to treat her to the wreath making, too!
The process is actually super simple, thanks to the amazing nursery. They set out bins of all different types of evergreen stems, other greenery, berries, etc. You make a certain number of bundles, depending on the size of wreath you’re making, then use their handy crimping tool to attach it to the wreath frame.
Making our wreaths had me reminiscing about last year’s Plaid Tidings wreath-making party I hosted for my sorority sisters. Such a fun time!
This was the outfit I wore to that party. Can’t wait to break it out again this year! Read those party details here.
My next favorite is our tree! I was inspired by the Plaid Tidings party, and used a bunch of that decor around the house and on the tree this year. I love all the mixes of plaids, natural elements, and glitter – we can’t forget the glitter!
One of my favorite ornaments on our tree this year is a gift we received at our wedding – one of our dear friends used our invitation to make an ornament and it is such a treasure.
You can read all the details and the how-to here.
Our mantle makeover is another favorite. I kept it simple this year, and just layered some garlands. I did an evergreen garland, red pom garland, and reindeer garland – all from Michaels! To complete the look, I tucked in some glassybaby votives, and called it complete! I love the layered yet simple look. In front of the fireplace, I added a nice furry rug, some plaid pillows, and our wooden “Christmas Trees” sign with a few trees.
It’s a cozy spot, and Penny especially loves it!
I also added our nativity to the living room – I set it on top of our TV stand, and it’s the perfect reminder of the reason for the season – a favorite for sure! To anchor the set, I put some garland out, and tucked the nativity pieces in the garland and then added a wooden sign with “O Holy Night” lyrics on it (I made this sign with paint pens a few years ago, and it’s held up so nicely!).
My final favorite is our decorated dining room table. The plaid, red, and green are continued here, and I am loving our new tiered stand, which was a wedding gift! I put some Christmas cups, plates, and decor items on the stand to dress it up for Christmas, then draped a pom garland across and added in some trees to complete the look.
Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you and yours have a festive and fun holiday season!
Party on!
