Hello friends! It has been a while since I blogged (220 days to be exact), because, well, 2020. I am excited to be back on my blog and sharing a little tour of our home for the holidays!
The holiday season started off with lots of excitment as we were preparing for my parents to visit – we got a new tree, we had lights put up on the house, and we got a few new decorations. With the rise in COVID cases, my parents made the wise decision to postpone their trip, so maybe I’ll just leave Christmas up until they visit (haha!) in the spring (fingers crossed!).
Welcome to our little holiday home!
Outside, we have warm white lights lining the roof and outlining the windows. This was our first year hiring someone to do the lights, and we’ll never go back. We are so pleased! I also added wreaths with big buffalo plaid bows to each window. I found a festive doormat and made my annual evergreen wreath. If you’ve read here for a while, you know that is usually a fun event with lots of friends and family members, but this year it was a small group of family at Chelsea’s parents’ house, and it was still just as fun! I used this wire wreath frame and this clamping tool to make our wreaths.
I am loving the addition of these bells to this year’s wreath!
Welcome inside! As you enter the house, you’re greeted by our Christmas tree. I have been eyeing the King of Christmas trees for a while now, and couldn’t resist the sale they had earlier this year to order a beautiful flocked one. We got a pre-lit 7.5 foot King Flock Slim tree, and couldn’t be happier! It sits proudly in our front window, which I love, but Penny wishes it was elsewhere because it now blocks her view guarding our house.
Our tree is dressed with lots of plaid ribbon and ornaments (currently 20% off!), some solid red and green ornaments, and all of our travel ornaments. I love it, and having a bigger tree this year makes me realize I need more ornaments than I realized, so I’ll be hitting up those after-Christmas sales to prep for next year! I found the prettiest star Christmas topper, and love how it reflects the light coming in from the window.
I have all of our Christmas cards from years past framed and tucked into the tree – I love looking back on those each year.
Since my mom and I thought we’d be together for Christmas, we coordinated our wrapping paper with some great finds from TJMaxx. I loveee their wrapping paper – it’s super thick, high quality, and very reasonably priced. We opted for their decorated craft paper with stripes and trees, some plaid, and green polka dots. I found a variety of fun ribbons and package toppers at Michaels and Target. And, even though we won’t be together in person, it was fun to receive a box full of presents from my parents in wrapping paper that matched ours.
Our couch and chair have plaid pillows perfect for cozying up to watch holiday movies. And our manger scene is tucked into our entertainment center with a “O Holy Night” sign I made years ago.
For our mantle this year, I decided to go with a red and white trees theme. I first draped the mantle in a flocked garland, strung some battery-operated fairy lights throughout, then added in a red and white felt garland. Next I tucked in red and white trees in a variety of sizes, shapes, and textures, and the finishing touch was my glassybaby voties and candles. I have these battery operated tea lights and pillar candles and I think they’re great to create a soft glow on the mantle. I also love that they have a moving “flame” that flickers, and are on a timer.
We got new stockings this year, and I love the Denver plaid and personalization! I didn’t find any stocking holders that I really loved, so I went with the invisible approach of clear command hooks tucked under the garland. I love the whole look, and it has served as a nice background for my zoom meetings, since my workspace sits adjacent to the fireplace.
Here’s a look at the whole room from the kitchen. And a little puppy photobomber, who is in her most favorite spot on a cozy blanket on the couch. And peep all those Christmas toys she owns. Too many? No, I don’t think so either.
Our kitchen is small and our counter space is at a premium, so I limit our decorations in there to a garland around the window over the sink. This year, I dressed it with ribbons, lights, and some kitchen-themed ornaments that I’ve had forever. I love how it turned out and how it twinkles in the evening hours.
On our dining table, I opted for a white and green theme, originally based on some super cute earthenware appetizer plates I found a Target. I layered the plates on top of wood chargers, then on some pretty gold-flecked placemats (from Homegoods). The tree napkins were a homemade gift from a coworker last year, and as I unpacked my decor this year, I was so delighted with how perfectly they coordinated with my theme! I topped each place setting with a coordinated green wine glass, perfect for festive sipping. The tree serving platter (from Michaels) has been perfect for some charcuterie boards-for-two this season.
Down the center of the table, I draped a flocked garland and tucked in fairy lights and a white pom garland. I added in white glass trees and gold and silver bottle brush trees, some little houses, my glitter reindeer, a white poinsettia, and glassybaby voties. It’s a winter wonderland for sure!
And here’s a couple glittery snaps of our house at night! All the heart eyes!
Thanks for stopping by and Merry Christmas!
